Scenic attractions Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges
The beauty of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges region is famous. See forests, rolling farmland, and corridors of vines that change colour with the season in the Yarra Valley, and the forests of lush ferns and tall trees, waterfalls and scenic lookouts dotted through the Dandenong Ranges.
Not far from Marysville, Steavenson Falls is one of Victoria’s highest waterfalls and a popular destination by day and night, when it is dramatically illuminated by floodlights. While in the Marysville area visit Lake Mountain, a favourite winter destination for family snow play and cross country skiing. In spring and summer those trails are lined with alpine flowers and popular walking routes.
Don’t miss Victoria’s biggest tree – you’ll find the soaring 84-metre tall mountain ash near Cambarville Picnic Area on the Cumberland Walk between Marysville and Warburton.
For panoramic views drive the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, a 30-kilometre drive between Upper Fern Tree Gully and Montrose through the Dandenong Ranges. Stop at the lookout at Kalorama for a view of the Warburton Ranges and Silvan Reservoir, or head off Ridge Road to the Mt Dandenong Observatory for stunning views of the city, particularly at night.
