Maritime history
Along the coast there is a rich maritime history to be discovered. Port Albert is one of Victoria’s oldest ports and visitors can wander through the town and enjoy the charm of lovingly restored buildings dating back to the 1800s – among them the Bond Store and warehouse, the Old Bakery, Gowrie House and the Port Albert Hotel licensed since 1844. Further along the coast there are a number of lighthouses worth visiting including the Wilsons Promontory Lighthouse, Point Hicks Lighthouse and the Gabo Island Lighthouse.

The Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum houses displays of artefacts, navigation equipment, shell collections and an outdoor display of boats, anchors and beacons.

Point Hicks Lighthouse is located in Croajingolong National Park surrounded by secluded beaches and wildlife including one third of Australia's bird species and humpback whales.

The Gabo Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1862 after shipwrecks in the area. It is made from pink granite, which was cut locally and is one of the tallest and most elegant light towers in Australia.
