Preparing to hit the slopes
Skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing are strenuous aerobic activities that require flexibility, strength, endurance, speed and quick reflexes. You should be fit to ski rather than skiing to be fit.
Pre-ski fitness means you are prepared for longer, more challenging and better skiing and snowboarding on the more difficult slopes and trails, and decreases the chance of injury to yourself and other skiers and boarders. Children, as well as adults, will benefit from a pre-season fitness program. In any fitness program ensure you:
- Start your training well before the ski season or your trip
- Train regularly and frequently – at least three times per week
- Always warm up before an exercise session.
